BC Alpine Ski Association encourages all levels of ski racing in British Columbia. Masters racing (age 18+) in BC is rapidly growing and you will want to be part of the action.

MISSION:

"To develop nationwide adult recreational racing programs that encourages lifelong participation, and foster personal growth and fellowship for all adult racers, in a safe and positive environment."

GENERAL:

Recreational racing opportunities for adult alpine skiers range from events sponsored by local ski clubs and ski areas, to national and international Masters competitions that are sanctioned by BC Alpine Ski Association, Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) and the International Ski Federation (FIS). Sanctioned Masters races are formally registered and insured by ACA or FIS. A Safety or Technical Delegate (TD) is appointed to oversee safety measures and other aspects of race preparation and completion. The liability insurance covers the sponsoring club or ski area race organization committee (ROC) and the ski racer. Masters courses are set on normal race terrain using specific guidelines for the four alpine disciplines: slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill. GS events traditionally attract the largest number of Masters participants.

Masters programs provide age-class competition for racers 18 to 80+ years old. Successful blending of camaraderie, love of challenge and peer-group competition are major attractions of Masters Racing. In addition to the satisfaction of training and racing to fulfill one's personal goals, racing in Masters events introduces mature racers to a highly social and friendly group of like-minded adults from all walks of life. Most clubs will accept Masters racers in their local programs.

Masters racing welcomes "late bloomers" who took up recreational racing later in life as well as former racers who choose to resume competition at an age when time, money and family allows it. Higher-caliber national and international Masters events offer continuous competition opportunities for mature athletes who have raced at the junior, senior, university or higher levels of performance. Masters with low national points are invited to enter local non-FIS junior races.

1. CANADIAN MASTERS PROGRAM: Open to alpine racers aged 18 and over as of December 31, 2007. The national agenda is driven by the Canadian Masters Working Committee, which is currently governed by Alpine Canada (ACA) and implemented by Provincial Ski Organizations (PSO). See www.acamasters.com. 
2. MASTERS VISION: To grow a quality, adult-focused and sustainable organization responsible for the promotion, co-ordination and effective delivery of recreational racing and training programs for all mature athletes in Canada, from entry level to FIS Masters competition.

4. MEMBERSHIP: All participants must be Masters members of an ACA-affiliated club or members of their National Ski Organization. There are 3 grades of membership:
     - REGIONAL: Racers may participate in one weekend event in their province of residence without a National card but will not be listed on the National database and points list. Note however that the Canadian Masters National Championships DOES require a NATIONAL card.
    - NATIONAL: Racers may participate in the entire schedule of National races across Canada which includes registration on the National database and points list. This card also enables racers to participate in the USSA Masters series.
    - INTERNATIONAL: Racers required a National/FIS card to participate in International Mastesr FIS events in Canada, USA, and other countries. This card includes registration on the National database and points list as well as the FIS Masters database and points list.
